Building the City

Kindergarten has started their Building the City Unit which is extremely hands on and fun. We spoke about various things we see in our city ie sign, skyscrapers, smaller homes, schools, libraries, light, parks, etc. We also spoke about people who help build a building and what is needed ie plumbing, electricity, architects, blueprints and more.
Below the children learned that not all buildings look alike or are made from the same things. Some are tall, small, made from bricks, wood, cement and more!
The children worked in small groups and used teamwork to come up with a home they designed. After we all walked to each group to see what was built as the team described how they came up with their ideas.

Brain and Bones

Kindergarten continues to learn about the human body in our science unit. We discussed the Brain and how it controls our body. We spoke about the bone, called the skull that protects it and how wearing a helmet when we ride bikes, roller blade, scooter, etc. protects it as well and is extremely important. We also spoke about bones. We looked at our anatomy apron and xrays. We felt various bones in our body and learned what bones do for our body.
Below the children are doing a project to put into their science notebooks.

Addition

Kindergarten is learning how to add! They are so excited and have been doing a lot of hands on centers to understand the concept.
We started out with a lot of visuals, then slowly added numbers into our equations. We have also introduced some addition games to help reinforce what they are learning.

Below the children are working with ten frames as they add play-doh pieces.

Below are hands on games to reinforce concepts being taught.

Happy Birthday Inna!

Kindergarten celebrated Inna's birthday! The children helped bake the yummy cake, made her birthday cards and gave her special birthday wishes. On special occasions we remember to do mitzvahs and so the class gave tzedakah. We also danced to Inna's favorite song and ate the yummy cake! Thank you to Inna's mommy and daddy for celebrating with us and for the gifts.

Thanksgiving Fun!

K1 and K2 along with the rest of the lower school celebrated Thanksgiving with yummy projects! Below the children decorated their own turkey cupcakes and made apple pies. It was a delicious celebration! We had so much fun!
